History Of The Breed
The origin of the English Springer Spaniel dates back to 17 A.D. The first mention of the breed was by the Irish Laws, which stated that 'water spaniels' were given to the king as a tribute.
There was mention of a Land Spaniel by the 16th Century which was described to have floppy ears and a white chest, feet and belly with a black body. It was later that the Land Spaniel was to be divided into the Crouching and Springer Spaniel.

The first English Springer was imported to Canada from Great Britain in the year 1913 where it quickly became one of the most popular AKC recognized breeds.
Today, the Springer Spaniel still ranks within the top 30 most popular breeds according to the AKC.
- Cocker Spaniels (weighing up to 25lbs)
- Field Spaniels/English Spaniels (weighing around 45lbs)
